What to use instead of the plastic grow mats?

So I've been looking at ceramic baking dishes to grow a good amount of microgreens for myself. I'm really trying to avoid using those plastic grow mats thing.
the ceramic ones seem like they could work, but they're around $15 each, which would get pretty pricey if I ever wanted to grow more.

has anyone have any recos on good non-plastic alternatives? any ideas would be amazing! thanks!

Yeah ceramic is great but they're quite expensive lol. Terra cotta saucers could be a good choice for you! They're cheap, porous and natural so if you're more of an organic typa person this could work. Metal trays are reusable! Or glass baking dishes. Your local garage sales could have it

Yeah, I get it, ceramics are great but can be expensive. I've picked up some old terra cotta and metal trays at yard sales before. They work just as well and don't break the bank

yeah, you can use a non plastic reusable trays like food grade silicone mesh mats or stainless steel mesh. you just need to place the mesh directly in a tray (often a standard plastic 10x20 tray, but you can find stainless steel ones too). You sprinkle the seeds directly onto the mesh and bottom water. The roots will grow through the mesh into the water below
